MHI Vestas Installs First Turbine at Norther, soon to be Belgium’s Largest Offshore Wind Park

Aarhus, February 4, 2019

MHI Vestas has installed the first of 44 turbines at Norther, a major step forward for offshore wind production in Belgium.

The first V164-8.4 MW turbine has now been put into place in Belgian waters, representing a noteworthy step forward for offshore wind efficiency in the market compared to previous 3.3 MW installations.

MHI Vestas continues their strong track record in Belgium as Norther marks the company’s 4th project in the country. Additionally, the V164 platform is nearing a major milestone as turbine #200 will be installed in the coming days.

MHI Vestas Chief Operations Officer, Flemming Ougaard, said: “For MHI Vestas, Norther represents several notable milestones. Not only are we celebrating our 4th project in Belgium and the safe installation of the first V164 turbine in Belgian waters, but in a few days we also look forward to installing our 200th V164 globally.”

The safe installation at Norther, 23 km off the shore, is based on good collaboration with partners Norther NV which is a project of Elicio, Eneco and DGE (a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation) and Van Oord. When fully commissioned, Norther will provide clean energy close to 400,000 Belgian households.
